The Zangrilli Residence is located at the top of a steep slope with a mature and beautiful stand of Gamble Oak Trees. The client wanted to create access from the house, down the slope, to a structure located at the bottom of the property. There was also a desire to create safely enclosed, flat, play spaces for kids at the lower end of the property as well as at the top of the slope outside of the back door. AKLA wanted to preserve the Gamble Oak and also mitigate any potential erosion on the back slope. This was achieved by using stone beams set in a tetris pattern with lushly planted pockets between the beams. The play spaces and fencing plan helped to define the edges throughout the rest of the plan.
