Designing a landscape for a steep, wooded site in Asheville, North Carolina, required a thoughtful approach to balance aesthetics, functionality, and environmental sustainability. A series of terraced walls provide pedestrian access from the upper parking area to the main entry while also creating level terraced areas for moments of pause. . A 10’ water feature created a focal point at the main entrance to the home. Choosing hardy, low-maintenance native plants suited to the local climate and soil conditions helped stabilize the steep slopes and improved aesthetics.
