Wanderer’s Way is a pioneering housing proposal in Winter Park, Colorado, that reimagines what it means to live sustainably, communally, and beautifully in a high-alpine environment. In response to the region’s pressing need for attainable, workforce-oriented housing, the project introduces a modular, high-performance neighborhood that blends contemporary architecture, resilient landscape design, and human-centered urbanism. Designed in collaboration with Glenn Rappaport of Black Shack Architects and Honomobo Design, the project is grounded by a landscape-led framework developed by Aceto Kimball Landscape Architecture (AKLA). AKLA’s vision transforms a constrained mountain site into a vibrant, walkable community that balances modern form with ecological and cultural sensitivity At the heart of Wanderer’s Way is a shared street or "woonerf"—a flexible, low-speed, multi-use corridor that prioritizes pedestrians, bikes, and community gathering over cars. Designed by AKLA to function as both a circulation route and a central social space, the woonerf is framed by plantings, integrated seating, porous paving, and microclimate buffers that invite casual interaction and seasonal activity. It serves as the structural and emotional core of the neighborhood, replacing traditional road hierarchy with a more inclusive, human-scaled experience.
