Ramble Woods

Located in the exclusive Ramble community of Asheville, North Carolina, this modern residence is set on a wooded lot in the prominent neighborhood. The concept of the project is based on a play of opposites; public/private, open/closed, formal/informal. The house is made up of two distinct volumes connected by a glass entry space. As you approach the entrance of the home, your eyes are drawn through the glass to a modern viewing garden at the rear of the home. The landscape design is a study in formality, which juxtaposes the naturally informal space of the forest. The public volume of the house is made up of one large, open living space that flows effortlessly to the grand outdoor spaces of the home, which include an infinity edge pool, spa, terrace, and play lawn, as well as the covered screened porch with brick fireplace and outdoor kitchen. The relationship of the solids and voids of the house define the architecture and its connection to the landscape.
