AKLA and Vellum Architecture + Design collaborated on a modern residence in Chapel Hill, NC for a retired active couple. The architecture and site were a blend contemporary aesthetics allowing the home to be nestled into its natural woodland surroundings. The careful placement of the house integrated a Cantilevered Master Suite w/ views into the woodland: Positioned to maximize views and privacy, floating above the landscape for a dramatic effect. A sleek, glass-enclosed walkway linking the master suite to the main house separated the active from private areas while providing drainage from the auto court. A serene pool with infinity-edge reflects the tree canopy and gives a sense of boundlessness as it cascades into the woodland.
