Barker Lodge

AKLA led the redesign of the Barker Base Lodge at Sunday River Resort which represents a thoughtful transformation of the exterior environment surrounding one of the mountain’s most prominent and heavily trafficked buildings. As a roughly 45,000-square-foot lodge serving as a primary access point for skiers, riders, and resort guests, Barker plays a pivotal role in shaping the overall arrival experience at Sunday River. Set against the rugged and scenic backdrop of Maine’s Mahoosuc Range, the design honors the mountain character of the site—both aesthetically and ecologically—while improving functionality, accessibility, and guest comfort. The approach carefully balances modern visitor needs with a deep respect for the lodge’s alpine setting.
