AKLA in collaboration with Vellum Architecture + Design was hired to design a modern home on the outskirts of Asheville, North Carolina on a challenging site with steep slopes and complex driveway access. The home is strategically positioned to capture sweeping mountain views, and the landscape enhances both function and experience. The program includes an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a fire element terrace for year-round gathering, and a play lawn that integrates into the sloped terrain. Thoughtful grading solutions and retaining strategies ensure seamless transitions between spaces while celebrating the site’s natural beauty and dramatic topography.
