In 2018, AKLA pitched the City of Portland with the idea of building infill housing at the former site of the West School in Libbytown. AKLA joined a team of developers in 2021 to plan and build two of Portland’s first co-op housing communities. One of which would deliver more than 160 units to the former West School site. The proposed development is located a stone's throw away from the ‘Libbytown Playscape’, of which funding was obtained through a grant that AKLA provided conceptual visionings and renderings for. Also within walking distance is a bus stop, ball fields, commercial amenities and the only public pool in Portland.
